Introduction
The excitement you feel on Christmas Eve is real. A lot of kids and grown-ups can’t wait for Santa Claus to come. Many people wonder where he is as he travels from the North Pole. Now, with new technology, you can watch Santa’s sleigh as he brings gifts to houses around the globe. This guide will show you what you need to know about the best Santa trackers, how they started, and how you can be part of the christmas fun.
Origins and Tradition of Santa Tracking
The fun of tracking Santa Claus started more than 65 years ago by chance. It began in 1955 when someone called the Continental Air Defense Command in Colorado Springs.
Today, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, or NORAD, keeps up the special tradition started by CONAD. Every Christmas Eve, the NORAD Tracks Santa program helps families feel happy and brings them together. This has become a big part of Christmas for many people all over the world and is now loved by them.
How Santa Trackers Began: NORAD’s Holiday Story
The story begins in 1955. A Sears advertisement was printed in a Colorado Springs newspaper. It gave out a phone number so kids could call Santa. But there was a mistake in the ad. A little girl’s call went to the continental air defense command (CONAD) operations center for the first time. Colonel Harry Shoup, who was there, picked up the phone. At first, Shoup spoke in a gruff voice because he thought someone was playing a joke.
When Shoup found out the caller was a child who believed he was Santa Claus, he spoke in a kinder way. He told his team to share the “current location” of Santa with any child who called that night. This one call started an idea.
Shoup saw a chance to let people know more about what they do. He told his team to let news people know that CONAD was watching Santa and his sleigh on Christmas Eve. When NORAD started, they kept doing the same thing. This made Colonel Shoup’s nice move famous all over the world. It was the first way for people to watch Santa live at Christmas.
Milestones in Santa Tracker Technology Over the Years
What started out as simple phone calls has now changed a lot. In the early days, the Associated Press gave out news about where Santa was. The North American Aerospace Defense Command kept this going by setting up the NORAD Tracks Santa hotline. This hotline got bigger over the years and now can handle thousands of phone calls.
More than 1,000 volunteers work at the NORAD Tracks Santa Operations Center at Peterson Space Force Base. They are busy at the NORAD Tracks center, where they take calls and emails from people all over the world. They give people real-time news and updates about Santa’s trip. This is a special job at this site each year, and many people enjoy talking to someone from NORAD about where Santa is right now.
The way people keep track of Santa has changed with time. It started with landlines and now uses new digital tools.
